St. David’s presents $1M in grants

St. David’s Foundation is attempting to create a “perinatal risk-free zone” in Central Texas with a new $1 million grant initiative.

The foundation has awarded 12 grants to 10 local corporations doing work to boost maternal overall health results among individuals of colour.

The one-year grants range from $15,140 to $150,000. They are a reaction to sobering stats about perinatal health consequence disparities. 

In a 2018 research by the Texas Department of Point out Overall health Providers, Black women in Texas had a being pregnant-connected mortality charge 2.3 times higher than that of white females. A 2020 examine by the section showed that 89% of all being pregnant-connected deaths in Texas could have been prevented Black and Hispanic mothers experienced greater costs of intense maternity troubles than white moms.

“We already know what an unsafe zone seems to be like,” claimed Jasmine Roussell, a system case manager for Mama Sana Vivid Woman, which is utilizing its $150,000 grant from St. David’s Foundation to use a bilingual case manager who will hook up more people to doulas, midwives and other offered sources.
